I tried using a 3" trash pump and separate fire hose pump as a makeshift dredge. The fire hose loosened and suspended the bottom matter OK, but the suction screen on the trash pump plugged up almost instantly. Removing the screen (there are no rocks) clogged up the trash pump just about as instantly. I'm looking for alternative ideas.

It is important that only relatively clean water go into the dredge pump so I put the output of the 3 inch pump into a large bucket, the foot valve for the dredge pump goes into the bucket so that it only sucks up clean water.

Relatively easy to reduce the output side. Get a 4" to 2" black iron reduction bell, and a 2" nipple. That's the cheap part. Now the expensive part: you'll need 100' of 4" rigid hose and enough 2" pressure hose to reach the nozzle from your pump with enough extra to move the nozzle around your dock.

Ive heard of trash pumps being used on dredges and dont see no use buying a high dollar motor for a dredge if this one can put out the water needed.
